Her first three published novels were all set in what has come to be called the Hainish "world" - Rocannon's World and Planet of Exile, both published in 1966, and City of Illusions which appeared the following year. Le Guin Technically, this is three books in one big trade edition. These novels, Rocannon's world, Planet of Exile, and City of Illusions, are set in the same universe as Le Guin's groundbreaking classic, The Left hand of Darkness. Reviewing Worlds of Exile and Illusion 3 Critically speaking, my verdict on City of Illusions was similar to my feelings on Rocannon's World : Better than most SF adventure novels, not as good as Le Guin's later work. Le Guin is one of the greatest science fiction writers and many times the winner of the Hugo and Nebula Awards. All three were out of print for some years until 1996 when Tor republished them in a single volume entitled Worlds of Exile and Illusion.
